Earlier last week, Samsung Electronics had unveiled their latest addition to their range of LED projectors. Their projector came in at 1,000 lumens of brightness. NEC Display has now detailed their own LED projector that is double the brightness of the Samsung offering.
With a brightness of 2,000 lumens, the NEC projector which is called Sirius is said to be the “brightest LED projector to date”. The Sirius LED projector is a 3 color projector (red, green, blue), using three independent LEDs as its light sources and though it is still in the prototype stage, indications are that it can reproduce 98% of the Adobe RGB color gamut whereas the industry standard at this time is roughly 60%.
NEC expects that by the time these units are commercially available, their brightness will be in the 3,000 – 4,000 lumens which is approximately the equivalent to what we see in LCD projectors.
