A dynamically updating audio file format called MusicDNA was unveiled at the Midem music conference. The new format was introduced by Dagfinn Bach who worked on the original MP3 player and by investor Karlheinz Brandenburg who was one of the investors of the MP3 file format.
The new file format has a storage capacity of 32GB and can store pertinent digital data such as lyrics, video, blog post and art work. Also, since it is dynamically updating, any time a user establishes an internet connection, the file will check for new updates and automatically download them ensuring the music listener has the latest information available. The new file format is said to go in direct competition with Apple’s iTunes LP that already offers bonus content such as lyrics and video interviews.
The first beta launch of MusicDNA will be this spring and if all goes well, then a full rollout can be expected in the summer of 2010.
