If you’ve looked at the original Motorola Droid 2 and thought that this may be just a little to dull for your liking, there is of course the R2D2 Droid 2, a smartphone with a Star Wars twist.
If you’re interested in buying this smartphone, it will be available through Verizon wireless as of this Thursday, September 30th. The phone will have a net price of $249 post $100 mail-in rebate. For this price, you will be on the hook for a two year service contract.
Aside from the paint job that gives it that Star Wars droid look, the phone is available with a few more gadgets including a media dock, wired stereo headsets and everything comes nicely tucked away in a custom box that resembles carbonite.
Some of the exclusives of this phone include custom R2D2 ringtones, clock widgets, live backgrounds, a Binoculars app and keeping with the Star Wars theme, Verizon has also confirmed that Android 2.1 or higher smartphones can download the “Empire Strikes Back” app through the marketplace.
This new app will allow mobile users to peruse and download additional Star Wars material onto their handsets.
