Motorola Droid owners have waited patiently for the arrival of Droid 2.1. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster, one day on, next day off and this has resulted in confusion for consumers.
When Droid 2.1 rolls around, there will be some interesting updates and enhancements that will be made available, some of them highly sought after. Some of the features you can expect include:
- Voice recognition for virtual keyboard
- Virtual keyboard enhancements
- 3-D galleries
- Introduction of pinch to zoom touchscreen interactivity to the browser and galleries
- Better widget support for news and weather
- Enhanced battery performance
- A patch for the security lock bypass
- Google Goggles integrated into Droid 2.1 and thus not requiring a separate download
The feature list sounds impressive and it is understandable why Droid users would like to have the new update pushed out to their devices. As for when this will occur, we can only say that in the US, the “Over-the-air software upgrade is expected to roll out soon.”
Motorola recognizes that there is frustration growing with their subscriber base, not just because of the delays in releasing the software upgrade, but also the lack of information that has been made available. To at least address the latter point, Motorola has setup a web page where you can follow Droid updates as they occur. You can see the updates here.
