When it comes to Android phonesets, HTC and Motorola (NYSE:MOT) have been leading the pack. The recent Google Android powered HTC Evo 4G was greeted with a strong reception, though sales figures announced through Sprint were toned down a few days later.
Motorola has also held their own in the arms race bend on building the best Android smartphone and have set out on an ambitious plan to release a handheld device with a 2-GHz processor. If the plans set out by Sanjay Jha are met, this phone would have twice the processing power of any mobile phone available today and with the faster processor, users would obviously benefit with all the rich content that is available including live media streaming, video chat and better games.
This sounds great, but the question begs to be asked. Where does Motorola plan to get a 2GHz processor as there have been no press releases from any of the other chip makers regarding a possible new processor on the way?
Is this a pipe dream or does Motorola know something that hasn’t become public knowledge just yet? Suffice it to say, this would be quite a coup for Motorola, after all, the Google Nexus One as well as the HTC Evo and Incredible all run on a 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor but I’m sure a shiny 2GHz processor would make phone makers all around consider possible upgrades for their respective devices.
