SocialDeck is a Canadian company involved is social gaming. Founded in 2008, SocialDeck is involved in the development of games that are multiplayer and can be simultaneously enjoyed by a number of gamers across social networks and handheld devices. Some of the platforms for which they have developed games include the iPhone, BlackBerry and Facebook.

Today, the search engine giant, Google Inc. has confirmed that they have purchased SocialDeck for an undisclosed sum of money. Social media and social gaming is a growing field that lends itself well for online advertising and this is the meat and potatoes of Google’s business model. Some of the game titles that SocialDeck has created include Color Connect, Shake and Spell and Pet Hero. In all, SocialDeck has seen their games be downloaded in excess of 1 million times and their “technology also facilitates viral content discovery, distribution and monetization.” This may be the rationale behind the Google purchase today.
