Portable devices such as smartphones have greatly benefited from touchscreen technology and the development of virtual keyboards. However, there are many mobile users that still prefer the tactile touch of a hardware keyboard over the onscreen keyboard.

Catering to this market segment, Mobience has announced their new QWERTY keyboard that has been specifically designed to be used with mobile phones and MIDs. Although the Mobience keyboard adds one more gadget that you do need to carry around with you, it does include wireless technology so that you don’t have to deal with messy cables and the likes.
The mini keyboard is being labeled as a QWERTY keyboard. However, it is not a standard keyboard with the traditional 26 alphanumeric keys. Rather, the keyboard includes 12 numeric keys along with 8 extra functional keys, something reminiscent of a mobile keypad. As multiple letters are assigned to individual keys, “texting” will consist of taping keys multiple times until you get the character you want, unless that is the keyboard includes predictive texting technology such as that which comes with T9.
At this time, there are no details regarding either pricing or availability.
