On a regular basis, it seems that there are new versions of hard drives that are coming to the market, and with each version, you’re seeing greater miniaturization and increased storage capacity. The same holds true for the Freecom hard drives that are expected to hit the UK markets soon.

These hard drives are 2.5 inches in size and weigh in at only 5 ounces. With such a small drive, external power is not required as these drives run solely off of the power received from a USB connection.

The drives will be available in three different sizes, 160GB, 250GB, or 320GB, with prices ranging from $90 to $160. Drives like this are great for holding data and in fact, a lot of people now use these types of drives to transport data from one location to another. The one thing you do need to be careful about is of course identity theft because a drive such as this can hold an incredible amount of information and could really become a treasure chest for any would be thief. If you are planning on getting an external portable drive, you really may want to look into different encryption methods so that you can use to encrypt the data on these drives.
