The Mimi Switch Remote Control look like a set of earbud headphones designed for an iPod. Insert these into your ears and “A wink, a smile or a raised eyebrow could change your music on your iPod or start up the washing machine.”
This gadget has a series of infrared sensors built into it that detect inner ear movements that occur as a result of facial expressions.
According to Kazuhiro Taniguchi of Osaka University, the infrared remote control can be programmed to detect facial expressions and through those facial expressions, control appliances within the home. The next time you see someone stick their tongue out, it may not be directed toward you, but rather a means of turning their TV off.
It is believed that this gadget could have benefits for those with physical challenges.
