The Microsoft Surface tablet is expected to make its debut this fall and by most indications, the launch of this device would take place in October which is around the time when Windows 8 will be available.
We now have confirmation of this information and in fact, we now have an exact launch date for Microsoft Surface. Through Microsoft’s annual report, it was made clear that the Redmond company would not only make Windows 8, but also Surface available on October 26th. This report was just filed a few days ago with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Having a confirmed launch date now also puts a few other things in place. With the Surface RT ARM tablets launching on October 26th, we can look 90 days beyond this date to get an estimate as to just when the Intel powered Surface Pro models will be available. Essentially, this means that we might not see the Intel units until 2013 and it could very well be that Microsoft will wait until CES to make another announcement for these devices.
With new products around the corner, we can expect that Microsoft will spend a significant sum of money on promotional material and this will cover both Windows 8 as well as the Surface tablets. With their SEC filing, the Redmond company did confirm that they expected these additional costs will impact their operating margins.
