These days, when you think of Microsoft, the first thing to come to the mind of many people is Windows 8, their upcoming operating system and this would be rightfully so considering all of the publicity that this OS has received.
However, Windows 7 is Microsoft’s current operating system and it is hugely popular. Today, we have some numbers to share with you that show the success of this OS. Based upon the numbers that are available, it would appear that across the world, Microsoft has managed to sell 600 million licenses. This is an impressive number that was announced by Steven Guggenheimer on behalf of Microsoft at Computex.
The information can only shed a positive light on the Redmond company and it’s believed that the number of Windows 7 licenses will continue to grow as more companies make the move from Windows XP to Windows 7 within their respective enterprises. In addition to the total number of licenses which was announced, we’re also hearing that Microsoft has managed to sell 75 million licenses in just the last 120 days. It’s an impressive feat and shows that Windows 7 has seen steady adoption both by industry and the average consumer with Redmond having sold 525 licenses in February.
Of course, Microsoft isn’t going to be sitting back on this success as they plan to offer Windows 7 users a sweet deal to upgrade to Windows 8 with pricing starting as low as $15. Additionally, users that want to get a sneak preview of the new OS can do so with the Windows 8 Release Preview that was made available last week.
