Microsoft Removes Limits For The Free Windows 7 Beta Download

Originally, Microsoft announced that their free beta windows 7 download would be restricted to 2.5 million downloads, after which, the public offering would end.

The demand for Windows 7 beta was huge and this resulted in high traffic to the Microsoft Windows download site, which ultimately brought the webpage down.

Microsoft spent the weekend in damage control mode, adding additional hardware infrastructure to get the site back up. However, as a good will gesture, Microsoft has lifted the download limits. Anyone interested in trying Windows 7 for free will be able to do so. You will have the next two weeks (until January 24th) to download a free copy. Just remember that this is a beta copy and will probably have some software bugs, so Microsoft recommends using it on a spare workstation pc or dual booting Windows 7 with your main OS.

I bet you are correct that there were a number of users that have experienced Windows Vista problems and were looking to see what the next Microsoft operating system would be like.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Windows 7 reviews over the coming weeks. Should be interesting.
