Microsoft Office 2010

Microsoft Office 2010

With past operating systems, Microsoft has bundled Microsoft Works with their OS. The software provided consumers with rudimentary programs that would meet the most basic of basic office needs. Those that need more then what Microsoft Works could deliver could of course purchase Microsoft Office.

Microsoft has indicated that they will be phasing out MS Works, instead providing consumers with Office Starter 2010 that is monetized using advertisements. The basic principal is hardware vendors will package the “lite software” with each computer they sell.

Consumers would have access to free Office products with ads and reduced features. If consumers have a need for more advanced features, they will have an option to upgrade Office by purchasing a new license.

The nice thing about the new system is that there are no big boxes containing software. If you want to upgrade your software, you only need to buy a plastic card that contains your license key and this will unlock all the features of Office. Currently, only MS Word and Excel will be offered in ad supported versions.
