Microsoft has always been skilled at finding new markets and improving existing product lines.
With their OS, they typically would incorporate third party software applications into their Windows operating system, thus reducing the need for the end consumer to turn to other applications to meet their needs. We saw this when Microsoft included free burning software and a free compressed (zipped) folder function within XP.
On the hardware side, we saw Microsoft develop the Xbox and the Zune to compete in the video game console and portable media player markets respectively. Recently, Microsoft announced their own laptop cooling pads. These new cooling pads are minimalistic in design, are 1.16 inches in thickness, USB powered and provide cooling by way of a single fan.
Microsoft expects these new cooling pads to retail for about $30 in July.
