Microsoft Corp announced today their free online application known as Hohm. Using the latest in analytical software licensed from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Hohm is able to offer consumer tips on how to reduce energy consumption, lower energy bills and hence save money.
The types of energy saving tips you can expect to receive from Microsoft Hohm include installing a programmable thermostat and caulking windows to eliminate air leaks.
The specific recommendations you receive will depend upon how much personal information you are willing to share on such things as home features, energy usage patterns and installed appliances. For those less comfortable with providing private information, Microsoft will offer recommendations based upon the national and local averages.
According to Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer at Microsoft, “We believe technology will play a pivotal role in tackling the global energy issues we currently face.”
