Microsoft is probably still stinging from their Kin handsets which did not appeal to mobile users. Windows Phone 7 (WP7) is their new mobile operating system and it is imperative for this OS to succeed in the market if they want to compete with the likes of Apple and RIM.
As such, the company has confirmed that all Microsoft employees, approximately 90,000 in total, will receive a WP7 phone once they start shipping after the holidays. It’s not known as to which phone manufacturer Microsoft will turn to for filling the order, but it’s a safe bet to say that an order for 90K phones will help the bottom line of any company.
Currently, many Microsoft employees do carry competitor smartphones like the Blackberry, iPhone or Android phones and by giving away a free WP7 phone, Microsoft will be able to reduce the competition in house and will also have WP7 phone ambassadors that can spread the good word if their experience with the device is satisfactory.
