Some two weeks ago, we reported that both Google and Microsoft were anxious to add real time data to their respective search engines and were in negotiations with Twitter as the provider of this information.
It appears that Microsoft was the first to ink a non-exclusive deal with Twitter for this data. Microsoft’s digital head Qi Lu indicated that Twitter data will be available immediately in beta format and what’s interesting is that Lu also indicated that they have also come to terms with the social networking site Facebook to include their data in Bing at a later date to be determined.
As to what tweets actually show up in the Bing Search Engine will be determined by the quality of the tweet, it’s relevancy as well as the social standing of the tweeter within the Twitter community.
We wait to see what Google’s response to this announcement will be as they have been testing their own new search engine called Google Caffeine over the last few months. Google Caffeine is said to be designed for improved speed and real time search.
