Micron Read SSD C300

We’re seeing solid state drives (SSD) growing in popularity and the technology being incorporated in new computer designs every day. Some of the advantages of an SSD drive include better stability due to no moving parts as well as faster speeds and a lower running temperature when compared to traditional hard drives.

With the new SATA 3.0 (SATA 6Gb /s) on the horizon, hard drive speeds will only improve and today, Micron has announced their RealSSD C300, a SSD capable of taking advantage of the new interface.

The C300 is available in two hard drive sizes, 128GB and 256GB and support a read speed of 355MB/s and a write speed of 215MB/s. The C300 is also said to support faster boot times, up to two times faster then a regular hard drive when all other components are the same. Be sure to check out the YouTube video below for the speed test.

Although limited quantities of the drive are available now, the mass release is scheduled for Q1 2010 at which time the drives will be available in both 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch form factors.
