Maingear has launched the SHIFT desktop PC, which is basically a supercomputer aimed at high-end PC enthusiasts. We all know how some PC geeks try to soup up their PC’s like car lovers pimp their rides — and spend around the same amount of money, too. There’s a market, and Maingear knows it.
One would expect Maingear’s new offering to be geared towards hardcore gamers, and it is — although it comes in a clean aluminum chassis that doesn’t have the lights, frills, bells and whistles of most other gaming rigs. It’s a sleek, simple vertical airflow PC that can be founded on Intel X58 or P55 platforms.
The SHIFT’s general hardware includes an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia or ATI graphics, up to 12GB DDR3 RAM, up to 8 SSD’s or 6 HDD’s, optional Blu-ray, a liquid cooling system, and a host of other options. And on top of all that, you can factory-overclock the darned thing to run even faster.
The base P55 SHIFT costs $2,199, while the base X58 version costs $2,599. Estimates stand that if you max out the X58 rig, it’ll set you back up to $19,000 (plus shipping). Well, at least it doesn’t pollute.
