GPS navigation systems are nice things to have when looking for a place to gas up, have a bite to eat, or find a good bed-and-breakfast when you’re on the road. But with smartphones and other mobile devices now packing GPS features, many feel they’re losing their luster. Magellan, a known leader in the GPS industry, is looking to change all that by giving travelers what smartphones can’t – like a 7-inch WVGA full color screen.
Magellan’s RoadMate 1700 GPS navigation system is the latest offering from their successful RoadMate series, and it offers four times the display real estate than most other GPS systems. It comes pre-loaded with maps of all 50 States, Puerto Rico, and Canada, and drivers can enjoy spoken street name guidance and highway lane assistance.
The RoadMate 1700 GPS system will have mini USB 2.0 connectivity, expandable memory (using microSD cards), route optimization, and AAA TourBook guide travel information to help users make the most of their road trips. If you already know where to go, the RoadMate 1700 can hook up to iPods and other video source to show movies on the 7-inch screen, keeping passengers (and only passengers!) entertained.
Magellan’s new GPS system will cost $299 and will come with all the necessary tools for mounting and charging on the go. Other accessories such as cases and pouches can also be bought separately.
