The desktop computer market has become somewhat stale and with the tech industry abuzz about the Apple Tablet, be it the iSlate, iGuide, or something else, it is Freescale Semiconductor that has stolen the limelight ahead of CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2010 with their announcement of a sub $200 prototype tablet computer.

The Freescale touchscreen tablet which will have a 7-inch screen size (1024 x 600 pixel resolution) and would run on the company’s ARM-based processor would come with 512 MB DDR2 RAM, 4GB-64GB internal storage, 3-megapixel digital camera and OpenVG & OpenGL/ES graphics cores. Other features would be a USB charging 1900mAh internal battery, network connectivity through Bluetooth, wireless 802.11 b/g/n, as well as an optional 3G modem and RF4CE. The prototype design also calls for an ambient light sensor as well as a 3-axis accelerometer.

Powered by either Google’s Android mobile software or the Linux operating system, the company expects that their tablet will be available by the summer of 2010, but declined to name any vendors for their design.
