Mobile handset designer LG (NYSE:LG) has achieved quite a milestone with their LG Pop (GD510) announcing that more then 1 million phones have been sold in the first hundred days since it launch throughout Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). With sales figures such as these, the LG Pop has quickly become one of the best sellers for LG who now retails this mobile phone to the global market.
Dr. Skott Ahn, the Chief Executive Officer of the South Korean based LG Electronics was quick to point out his belief that the success of this LG model stems from the fact that it behaves like a smartphone without having to have consumers go through a steep learning curve. It just works out of the box that appeals to a mobile base looking for a compact design with social networking support (MySpace, Twitter, Facebook) integrated right on the home screen. The LG Pop features a 3-inch touchscreen WQVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel digital camera and quad-band GSM support.
Another nice feature of the Pop is the availability of an optional solar battery cover that offers two minutes of talk time for every ten minutes that the device has been exposed to direct sunlight. Number crunchers that like to measure their positive impact upon the environment by using the solar charger will find the Eco-tree and Eco-calculator applications interesting as these software packages measure the reduced volume of CO2 resulting from solar charging.
Starting in March, the Pop will also be available in two new colors, lime and aqua blue.
