Assuming the train isn’t packed during the morning rush hour, it’s not unusual to see people standing around reading a paper copy of the daily news. In a few years, this may change as hardware designers develop flexible screens and along that line, LG display has announced the development of a 19-inch flexible e-paper display screen that is approximately the same measurements (250×400mm) as a traditional newspaper.

In addition to having the look of an A3 page, the new LG screen is light (130 grams) as well as (0.3 mm), which one would expect in a portable display screen. LG managed to add flexibility to their screen by layering TFT on a metal foil rather then the usual glass substrate. Not only did this make the device flexible, but it also made it durable.
The LG e-paper screen is currently the largest available today and LG does plan to mass produce it by mid 2010.
