At IFA 2009 today, LG Electronics unveiled their first series of LED TVs which they refer to as borderless, a term referencing the absence of a visible bezel. This is accomplished by a special injection compression moulding process followed by film laminating. As such, the LG screens come with an edge to edge glass panel similar to the displays seen on the Apple MacBook pro.
The three LG models introduced were the LH9000, SL9000 and the SL8000. Of the three, the LH9000 is the high end LED-backlit LCD TV with a dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 and a 200Hz frame rate. These sets are available as 42-inch or 47-inch displays.
The SL9000 is similar to the LH9000 but comes with a 3,000,000:1 Mega Contrast Ratio and a 100HZ frame rate.
Finally, the SL8000 is available in sizes between 32-inches and 47-inches with a borderless design. The 42-inch model measures 4.5cm in thickness.
Common to all models is the inclusion of LG Intelligent Sensor II, a device that will recognize ambient lighting conditions and adjust TV picture settings accordingly. This feature is said to reduce energy consumption and thus result in a savings on your electricity bill.
