When the availability of Android 2.0 was announced, HTC had asked device owners to be patient as an upgrade would be on its way. That was back in late October and so far, this promised upgrade has not materialized.
Could it be that HTC will be leapfrogging 2.0 in favor of 2.1? On the surface, this appears to be so, at least according to the leaked images that have surfaced that show an HTC Hero running Google Android 2.1.
You’ll note that one of the leaked images shows a portrait view while the other shows landscape. The thought is that either HTC will support accelerometer-controlled landscape rotation or that another landscape orientated HTC slider is in the works.
Google Android 2.1 is expected to launch before the end of the year and with today’s leaked images and the pressure already on HTC to upgrade their device, they will need to clarify their position on this shortly.
