Trends in the netbook industry can be confusing. At first everyone was looking for smaller, lighter alternatives to the notebook PC — a need filled by the netbook. But now, netbook users are suggesting fuller keyboards and larger screens. Kohjinsha, the Japanese netbook maker, boldly addresses both trends with their revolutionary dual-display netbook.
The Kohjinsha DZ has two 10.1-inch LCD displays, each with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The design is so flexible that you can work with both displays side-by-side, with only one display, or with the display rotated 180-degrees so that it faces backwards.
The Kohjinsha DZ runs on a 1.6GHz Athlon Neo MV-40 processor, and has 1GB of RAM by default (expandable to 4GB). It comes with 160GB of storage space, Wi-Fi and BlueTooth capabilities, and a fingerprint reader. It’s also good for 4.5 hours of use, although we’re not sure if that’s on both display panels active.
The Kohjinsha DZ costs 79,800 yen (US$921), and should start shipping by December 11 if you pre-order today. Don’t be surprised if the netbook is a bit heavier than most of its single-screen counterparts, though.
