JVC has added to their high definition camera lineup with the addition of the Everio GZ-HM550. The new camcorder stands out from other models with the inclusion of Bluetooth technology, a feature not commonly associated with camcorders. In order to utilize the Bluetooth features, users will need to install a free application onto their Bluetooth enabled smartphone. The app can be downloaded from the JVC website.
Once installed, users can remotely operate the camcorder, as well as use their handheld device as a remote control or for geolocation and sound monitoring. Additionally, current smartphones generally include aGPS which offers additional features such as the addition of metadata to videos and pictures in the form of geo-tags and with the JVC media center application, you can also create bookmarks for Google Earth so that you can pinpoint the exact location of where the video was recorded.
Regarding the remote control features, these are fairly basic and consist of being able to activate the camcorders record, play, pause and zoom features remotely. Other features of the GZ-HM550 include a 10.6-megapixel sensor, the ability of capturing 9MP still pictures, 1080p Full HD video, 16x optical zoom as well as timelapse and super high speed recording modes. Of course, the GZ-HM550 would not be complete without some social networking features and in this regards, the Everio MediaBrowser suite, a Windows application has been included that allows you to upload video and picture files to Facebook and YouTube.
Expect to see the new JVC camcorder retail for $799.
