Baseball robots are common and in fact, there are entire Wikipedia articles devoted to this very subject. Though the uses of these sporting gadgets can vary, one common role is to improve a baseball players batting stance and swing.
The latest batting accessory is called the Jet Hitter, a device that was jointly developed by the Meiji University and MRC, a metal recycling company. You may have played Tee-ball in your grade school years whereby a soft ball was balanced on a Tee so that a young child would have a better chance of hitting it. Now take this up to the big leagues and this is where Jet Hitter comes into play.
Jet Hitter uses a stream of air to float a ball at the perfect height for a heavy hitter during baseball practice. The purpose of this is to allow the batter to improve his batting swing as well as to find the perfect sweet spot on the bat, something that’s not quite as easy to do with the usual automatic pitching machines that fire baseballs while you’re in the batting cage.
Jet Hitter is capable of holding 70 balls before a reload is required. Though it’s unlikely this device will be readily available to the average consumer, it is something you might see at a fantasy baseball camp or in the MLB.
