Diablo has always been a popular game, so much so that we’re now on the third instalment of this Blizzard game. It’s always interesting to get some insight into Diablo and recently, Jay Wilson, the former game director behind Diablo III sat down to reveal some details about this online adventure.
Currently, Diablo III has around 3 million unique users every month and approximately 1 million unique users sign in on a daily basis. This information was revealed at the Game Developers Conference during a session known as “Shout at the Devil: The Making of Diablo III.” Wilson has been engaged with Diablo III for the past six years, but at the beginning of this year, Wilson confirmed that he had been reassigned to another team within the company.
Aside from the number of player stats, Wilson also confirmed that at the end of last year, there were 12 million copies of Diablo III which had been sold, as in shipped copies. It’s expected that as we progress towards the middle and second half of this year, the number of Diablo III players will continue to rise as the game becomes available on both the PS3 and the PS4 with both 4 player split screen and offline play now supported.
Wilson did also speak on other point on Diablo III and that was the role of auction houses. Wilson believes these have negatively impacted the game as players are using them as a way to make real world money rather then pursuing the real purpose of the game which is to kill Diablo. While he did say that Blizzard will fix this issue, Wilson offered no insight as to just how or when.
