Is Windows 7 Slower Then Visa?

It’s a strange question to ask if Microsoft Windows 7 boots up slower then Vista. By all accounts up until now, there has been no question. Most reports have been highly positive in terms of Microsoft’s new operating system. However, recent testing performed by Iolo Technologies, a software maker, claims that Windows 7 boot up time is in fact slower then Microsoft Vista.

According to their independent studies, using a brand new PC, Windows 7 took 1 minute, 34 seconds to load the OS while Vista took 1 minute, 6 seconds. Iolo does indicate that loading to the desktop is faster in Windows 7 (40 seconds), but their software benchmarks measure the time to when the computer is “fully usable” and there is a small load on the processor.

Iolo also claims that as popular applications are installed on a workstation, boot times will be even more impacted and after two years of PC use, boot times will be 330% slower then with a new desktop.

Despite these claims, most end users are not concerned and many have already felt that Windows 7 has so many benefits over Vista that they are planning on upgrading their software as soon as the new OS goes on sale later this month.

Over the next few weeks and months, I’m sure many will perform their own trials to substantiate or refute Iolo’s claims, however, it should be noted that there is some conflict of interest in Iolo’s assertions as they do sell PC tune up software, so it is in their best interest to have a slow OS in the hopes that people purchase their software.
