HTC is a major contributor to the success of Google’s Android platform. Since Android’s debut, HTC has come up with a slew of mobile phones and smartphones that run on the Android operating system, which has led many industry pundits to wonder whether an Android netbook is in the works. Let’s explore that possibility.
Just last week, HTC unveiled the HTC HD2, a netbook that they claimed would not run Android. But wouldn’t a netbook with the same specs and a different name feature Android just as easily? Apparently HTC is twiddling its thumbs on the matter. According to HTC CEO Peter Chou, they’re definitely looking into the possibility, but at the same time want to avoid coming up with a generic offering.
That’s if you can count any Android device “generic.”
In my opinion, Android may perform best as a mobile phone OS, so if Google is working up a netbook offering with HTC, it’s got to be with Chrome OS. That does sound like a very attractive offering, and it’s only logical for Google to partner with HTC for such an undertaking.
Let’s wait and see.
