There have been a few handsets now that have launched with Near Field Communication (NFC) and the belief is that Apple will include this technology into one of their upcoming iPhone models. Yesterday, a rumor surfaced that seemed to indicate that it would be the iPhone 5 which is expected to be announced in September that will have NFC.
It was the Japanese website Macotakara which came out with this rumor and their information was based upon a leaked picture of what was reported to be an iPhone display. Within this picture was a small square and the speculation was that this was an NFC processor. Unfortunately, this is not the case and the rumors regarding the iPhone 5 supporting NFC appear to be false. It was AnandTech that performed their own investigation on this leaked picture and their belief was this square had nothing to do with NFC. Their assumption was also supported by The Loop, a website that has been well connected in the past with the Cupertino company.
As it stands now, there is no NFC, meaning that contactless payments from the iPhone 5 will not be possible. Assuming that no new information comes out on this subject and the iPhone 5 indeed does not have NFC, are you disappointed by this news?
