The 9to5Mac blog has identified a new feature that will shortly be rolling out to Apple TV settop boxes. If you’ve never been a fan of having to use a remote control to select letters on an on-screen keyboard in order to type letters for an item that you are searching for, read on.
According to the information that is available, a new iOS update will enable customers that own an Apple TV settop box to attach a bluetooth keyboard, thereby forgoing the need to use the on-screen keyboard. If you’ve ever used one of these on-screen keyboards, you’ll probably appreciate the option of being able to use a regular Bluetooth keyboard. Once the update has been applied, it’s very likely that we’ll see a number of third party options become available. These will come in the form of both new keyboards and remotes that will work with Apple TV. There was a video that was temporarily uploaded on the 9to5Mac blog that featured a demonstration of one of these keyboards interacting with Apple TV, but this has now been removed.
It’s believed that Bluetooth support for Apple TV will be available with the release of iOS 6.1, an update that will be coming shortly for not just Apple TV, but also for the iPad, iPod Touch and the iPhone.
