Yesterday, we heard about Google Chrome 6 beta becoming available with the addition of a new feature, being able to auto fill forms. Today, another tech giant, this time Microsoft has confirmed the release date of Internet Explorer 9 beta as September 15th.
Microsoft has not provided many details of IE9 beta, but all should be revealed at the “Beauty of the Web” event which is taking place in San Francisco. It’s interesting in that one of the reasons for the new browser and all the suspected features that will come with it is to fend off the competition that currently exists in the form of Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. However, you have to wonder if Microsoft shot themselves in the foot because IE9 beta will only work with Windows 7 and Windows Vista. In other words, if you’re still using the ever popular Windows XP, it will mean you will need to upgrade your operating system or go without IE 9 Beta.
What is known about the new browser at this time is the inclusion of support for the Open Font Format embedded fonts, the ability to run WebM video codecs and improved HTML5 support.
