Intel text to speech reader

Intel has come out with a text reader that converts printed text into digital text and MP3, subsequently reading it out for the listener. The device, which has been designed for the visually impaired, includes an Atom processor, a 5MP digital camera and is powered by the Moblin operating system, which is Intel’s Linux solution.

What’s great about this device is that it is really multi-purpose. Not only will it serve those with visual problems, but it will also serve anyone that has reading problems, including those that suffer from the learning disorder called Dyslexia.

For those familiar with Freedom Scientific’s screen reading software known as Jaws, the Intel reader will include some similar features including the ability to control the speed of reading.

The Intel reader comes with 2GB of data storage which can store about 600 books or 500,000 pages of scanned text. As with most specialty gadgets, this product is expensive, retailing for about $1500, but it is still cheaper then top of the line Braille readers and other devices used by those with a visual impairment.
