Intel Ports Google Android To Atom Smartphones

Even amongst layman, Intel is a brand name that has dominated the world of desktop computers and laptops with their media campaign of powered by Intel burned into the minds of many.

However, as always, there are other opportunities that the chipmaker can tap into and one of them is the world of smartphones, a technology that is currently the stronghold of ARM. Recognizing this, Intel announced this morning that they have successfully ported Google Android to an Atom microprocessor so as to be able to support “all OSes for Atom phones”.

Renee James, a senior vice president and general manager with Intel has indicated that there is already customer interest in an Atom enabled Android and it’s expected that the first Atom powered Android smartphones will debut before the end of the first half of this year.
