Mark Zuckerberg and the folks at the social networking site Facebook can deny all the rumors about it, but there is now video footage that confirms its existence.
Earlier today, INQ executive Andrew Bennet gave the tech blog TechCrunch an up close and personal demonstration of their new Android phone called the INQ Cloud Touch and one of the first things that you will notice is just how well Facebook is integrated into all facets of the device. For example, right from the home screen, you can receive all of your news feeds and status updates for your “top friends” through the use of widgets.
There has been a lot of speculation about the Facebook phone. First it was INQ and Facebook that was in collaboration last month and this was followed by discussions about whether the INQ Spotify was actually the same product in question. From the demonstration earlier today, we see that the new Android phone comes with the Spotify music player instead of the custom Android music app that comes standard with this OS.
Although Facebook has always denied the rumors that they were building their own phone, this device is as close as we’ve gotten to a Facebook phone though some still believe that Facebook is indeed working on a device on their own. Bennett has said that the user interface of this phone is Android based, but on top of this, there is a Facebook Layer that has four main apps.
These apps are Facebook People, Notifications, Events and Places logos. The Android phone will extract as much information from Facebook’s open graph so that it can populate the phones IM contact list, address and phone book, calendar, etc. etc.
When the phone comes on the market, there will also be a model that comes with a QWERTY keyboard and this model which is still in development, is known as the INQ Cloud Q. Both the Cloud Touch and the Cloud Q will go on sale in the United Kingdom in May while the launch date for the US is unknown at this time.
