Inklet Converts MacBook Trackpad To A Tablet

The folks over at Ten One Design have released Inklet, a neat little application that converts the Apple MacBook trackpad into a genuine trackpad tablet.

Priced at $24.95, Inklet emulates the full tablet experience accepting input through the use of a fingertip. If a greater degree of precision and control is required including pressure sensitivity, consumers can also look into the company’s $14.95 Pogo Sketch stylus.

Inklet has also been developed to work with the handwriting recognition technology integrated in OS X and is able to convert handwritten notes into text. The software also comes with palm recognition so that if you inadvertently touch the trackpad, you won’t mess up your work of art.

In terms of compatibility, Inklet will function on newer MacBooks that have multitouch enabled and are running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. At $24.95, it’s a fraction of the price of hardware tablets such as the Wacom tablet. For more drawing solutions, check out the PhotoSketch software that brings out the graphics artist in everyone.

What inklet fails in is navigation: if I want to click somewhere outside the trackpad buttons to access something, I can’t do it with the Inklet stylus (pogo). There are no buttons on the stylus to use the same way a wacom works. If it had that, this would be brilliant, but as only a drawing tool, moving in and out of it can be a pain.

You might like to suggest to them to add some button controls to click while hovering, and then you have a grand idea.
