Last week, we heard that Research In Motion (TSE:RIM) was planning to launch their own tablet computer called the BlackBerry BlackPad and other then the fact that the device would most likely run on the BB operating system, little else was known.
BGR has now received some new information about this device including the fact that it will come with an 8.9-inch display screen and that it will only be a “companion device” that has no cellular networking built-in. As such, the unit will use a Bluetooth connection to your BB device or the integrated WiFi to establish an Internet connection.
Currently, the tablet has a release of December, this year, but the BlackBerry team is expediting development of the device in the hopes of an earlier release date. This of course is not always a good thing. The focus of the BlackPad will be fairly similar to other tablet computers that have come before it, namely as a device that can be used to read ebooks, watch videos and surf the internet.
