The Infinite USB plug by Jiang Gonglue is a design idea which proposes to extend the functionality of the USB port by allowing an unlimited* number of USB gadgets to be daisy chained together.
Each USB connector within the chain would be color coded so as to allow you to keep track of your USB devices and each USB connector would insert into the one preceding it. Not only would the device free up USB ports, but it could also eliminate the need for an independent USB hub.
Though the device is known as the Infinite USB plug, this does seem to be a bit of a misnomer as theoretically, you can only daisy chain a maximum of 127 devices to a single USB port, but really, other then the most hardcore PC user, who in their right mind would need anywhere near this number? Other challenges from this design is power consumption. Having so many devices connected to a USB port would require a large power draw and for laptops that are running on battery power, this becomes an issue as it would quickly reduce battery time. Gonglue addresses this by suggesting that an external power adapter could be added to the chain to act as the power source.
Needless to say, this is a concept product for now, but not without its merit.
