Imation has announced the release of a new set of Apollo hard drives, of which the Apollo Pro WX will be the very first wireless USB hard drive. The only connection that this drive will require will be power, but other then that, there will be no additional connections with the pc required.
The opportunities to use such a drive are limitless as you are no longer required to have a physical connection to the drive in order to access it’s data. Want to access family photos on Apollo drive while you are in the living room entertaining family and friends? No problem, just connect into the wireless drive.
Being wireless, you may think that you will sacrifice speed in exchange for ease of access, but this is not true. Imation has advised that speeds on the Pro WX will be comparable to what is currently available on wired drives and this will be available over a range of up to 30 feet.
The top end drives will house Seagate drives and will have a capacity of up to 1.5 TB. Pricing is unavailable, but keep your eyes open as it is expected that these drives will be available this fall in your favorite retail stores.
