It was only a matter of time before the 7.9-inch iPad mini tablet received a teardown and now we have confirmation that this in fact has been completed. The teardown is courtesy of iFixit which is a group that is well versed in these sorts of projects.
Through this process, there were a few things that were identified. To begin with, the model number for the iPad Mini is A1432 which if you are curious, is just above the iPad 3 model number which is A1430. One of the challenges that the company had while working on the iOS tablet was actually removing the cover plates and this was due to Apple’s process of limiting access to the innards to prevent repairs from anyone other then an Apple technician.
In any case, once the cover was off, we see that this device comes with a pair of speaker grilles and this is the first Apple device to be deployed with stereo speakers. Apple also made use of insulating tape to position the display in the rear and also observed was the front glass and LCD display were distinctly separate. Also discovered was the Samsung W1235 S6TNM1X01 display driver which should not come as any surprise, but shows that Apple is still reliant on Samsung for display panels.
