Many of us thought that the more a kid stays in front of the PC, the sorrier his social life is going to be. But a recent survey conducted by the Pew Internet and American Life Project just found out that those who use the Internet and mobile technology actually enjoy a bigger social network than those who don’t.
The study has shown that people who use the Internet are more likely to engage in discussions, make friends, and basically keep in touch with friends and family. The Internet doesn’t isolate people as it was once thought to.
You may want to thank Facebook and Twitter the next time you go to a party with friends, or help feed kids in Africa, or simply greet an old relative a happy birthday.
Of course, it’s best to take the news with a good measure of skepticism. Just a few months ago, another study found that students who spend long hours on Facebook and playing video games get much lower grades than those who don’t. I guess that means success ultimately depends on the user instead of the tool.
