This last week has been particularly challenging for those living on the East coast of the United States as Hurricane Sandy left a trail of devastation behind. One of the biggest US cities to be hit was New York and estimates put the damages in the billions of dollars.
It’s going to take a lot of material resources to restore these cities to the state that they were in prior to the hurricane. As we know, people that want to help with the relief effort can make a financial contribution through the American Red Cross. To make things even easier now, Apple has partnered with the Red Cross and is now accepting donations on their behalf through their iTunes Store.
Apple users will be able to donate through any connected device that has iTunes installed, be it a personal computer or a portable device. Donations can be as small as $5 and go up to $200. In addition, 100% of the proceeds goes directly to the Red Cross as Apple will not be taking a 30% cut on the money that they collect. In order to use the service, you will of course need an iTunes account as well as have it associated with a credit card which will probably be the case for many that have an active account that is used to buy apps.
