HTC has announced their newest Android smartphone in the HTC Wildfire S. The new phone is a refresh of their entry level phone and with it comes Gingerbread or Google Android 2.4.
In refreshing the device, HTC has modified the form factor, thereby allowing the Wildfire S to shed some of its excess bulk and the optical trackpad, but what it loses in some areas, it does gain in others. Take for instance the new HVGA display screen which will improve the device’s compatibility with applications that are downloaded through Google’s Android market. Outside of this, the HTC Wildfire S is very similar to its predecessor. HTC portrays the new handset as an “evolutionary” update in an effort to maintain low prices and as such, this phone will not have some of the more common features found on smartphones today including NFC or a forward facing camera, although HTC Sense is included.
The Wildfire S runs on a single-core 600MHz Qualcomm processor and features a 5MP camera with flash and auto-focus, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n as well as Bluetooth. We can expect the phone to reach stores in the latter part of Q2 2011, though pricing is unavailable.
