HTC Sues Apple Over Five Patent Infringements

It’s not just Apple and Adobe that are feuding as HTC has announced their intention to countersue Apple over infringements pertaining to five of their technology patents.

This latest escalation is in response to Apple’s attack against HTC in March charging that the smartphone maker was in violation of 20 of Apple’s own patents regarding the iPhone and iPod. Apple’s lawsuit was really against Google and the Android OS, but rather then charging the search engine giant directly, they elected an indirect attack through the handset manufacturer.

We are still waiting on the exact nature of the grievances but this is big as HTC has requested that the United States International Trade Commission “halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States.”

With all of this going on, Google has thrown their support behind behind HTC, promising to help their partner. Unless this gets resolved outside of the court systems, which seems unlikely, we should expect a rather long and messy legal battle ahead. Along with this news, HTC has also launched a new video showcasing just how “quietly brilliant” they have been over the past few years.
