HTC EVO - Sprint's New 4G Smartphone

Sprint continues to make waves with their 4G products. First was their announcement of portable 3G/4G hotspots in select markets which was followed up by the mobile carrier announcing that Sprint 4G phones were coming.

Sprint has made good on their promise of 4G phones, having announced the HTC Evo 4G handset or “the country’s 4G smartphone.” Formerly known by its codename Supersonic, the HTC Evo boasts a 4.3-inch capacitive display with 480×800 pixel resolution which the mobile carrier is quick to highlight as not only 30% larger then an Apple iPhone screen but also optimized for web browsing and for viewing digital pictures or videos.

The Sprint 4G phone follows other mobile devices such as the Google Nexus One by being powered by a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU, a processor that has not only made a presence with mobile phones, but also in the emerging smartbook market. Other features include 1 GB built-in memory, 512 MB RAM, wireless 802.11 b/g support, voice-to-text messaging and an 8GB microSD card. The Evo also comes with two integrated cameras eluding to the possibility of video chat calls. The front facing camera offers 1.3MP resolution while the second flash camera offers better quality images with 8MP resolution and with the network connectivity, mobile users can easily share pictures and videos with friends on social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube. One of the more interesting features to be seen with Evo is its ability to act as a mobile hotspot through which up to 8 wireless devices can connect via a WiFi connection.

Sprint clearly has the lead for now in the 4G race as the Verizon LTE handsets aren’t expected to surface until next year.
