HP Hurricane Tablet With Palm webOS

HP Hurricane Tablet With Palm webOS

Some time back, the initial plan was that the HP Slate, Hewlett-Packard’s (NYSE:HPQ) tablet computer was going to be powered by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows 7. As a Windows tablet, it was expected to be a major competitor within the tablet market.

Recently though, HP confirmed that they were purchasing Palm (NASDAQ:PALM) and with that news, HP advised that they were terminating the Windows 7 tablet project.

At the time, the speculation was that HP would develop webOS and use the Palm operating system on a new HP tablet. This has now been confirmed at fact and we can expect to see the first HP tablet, which will be called the HP Hurricane, in Q3 2010. Other then the operating system, HP has not released any further information about the tablet hardware.

However, with the strong start that the Apple iPad has posted and with sales only to get stronger with international sales to commence later this month, I’m sure that we can expect a steady flow of information regarding their new project in the coming months.

I’m not sure we can yet say that it’s “confirmed” that a webOS tablet will be coming to us in Q3. This was a report put out by The Examiner, which has not proven itself to be the more reliable rumor source. Also, “HP Hurricane” while a cool sounding title, is the CODE-name for the device.

I’m with you — I hope this device comes soon.
