Guru Board Miniguru Keyboard

Mini Guru Keyboard

A good typist knows just how important a high quality keyboard is for accuracy and a faster typing speed. Over the years, there have been a few keyboard designs that have aimed to better typing speeds but for the most part, these concepts have been niche products.

Guru Board is planning on releasing their Miniguru keyboard in Q4 2010 that will once again try and improve typing speeds through technology. The miniguru is a small keyboard, the objective of which is to try and keep the typists fingers on the home row as much as possible. For this reason, the keyboard has three layers of function that can be accessed by modifier keys using the thumb. As an example, hold down a modifier key and press either j, k, l, ; and you’ve got your arrow keys. The keyboard can also be programmed and customized to meet your personal needs and the changes made are saved to the firmware.

The new keyboard also does away with the number pad and even adds a scroll button in the center of the keyboard, similar to what is seen on the Lenovo Thinkpads so that you can move the mouse without the need of a trackpad or a physical mouse.

If you’re thinking that you may have to learn to type all over again, I suspect there will be a learning curve which will vary in length with the individual. I guess time will tell if the keyboard does help you to type faster.
