The Gravity Ruler Luggage Scale looks like such a simple idea that can possibly end up saving frequent fliers some money on overweight bags at airport check-ins. The idea, developed by design students Marcella Maltese and Lin Wei, consists of bungee cord strung through a clear plastic tube that has been labeled with weight measurements. When you lift your packed suitcase, the bungee cord will stretch and the degree of stretch will correspond to the weight, allowing you to guesstimate if you are under the maximum weight limit allowed by your travel airline.

The Gravity Ruler Luggage Scale is not a concept product. In fact, the designers created 35 units which they took with them to the Travel Trading fair that was held in Milan. The response was extremely positive with all 35 units selling out in less then an hour.
The next step will be to find a manufacturer that is willing to commercialize their new travel gadget.

Good idea. It saves people having to weigh their bags on the bathroom scale.
That looks ubercool… much better than the other luggage scales on the market at the moment. I only hope they make more than 35!
